Name on rice

Hi all,
I'd like to make a name on rice charm for a friend, who I will be seeing this summer. I've done a lot of google searching for the materials needed but haven't had a lot of luck. (example of a name on rice charm)
What type of oil would you use to make this? I've searched on google and I haven't found any type of oil that is clear and transparent. All the sites I've been on have said they used 'magnifying oil', but what oil are they using exactly?
If I just used water, do you think it would last a long, long time?
And last question, apart from online buying, where could you buy the vials (preferably in the Ottawa/Toronto area)?
I'll be going on vacation and seeing my friend on July 15, so it'll be appreciated if I could get answers before July 10th.
EDIT: Thank you to everyone who replied, especially
beautifulwolf. I have a final question and I've checked on the Internet (not much info) and I am planning to go to Michael's tomorrow, but where can you get the miniature real flowers (something like these, perhaps)?
Thank you in advance!

Heya guys.
I have been rather bored as of late, and have this MASSIVE sheet of gorgeous black fabric with roses sewn into it. So, I took a trip to the Arts Recycling Centre and spent a whopping 50c! And I made a corset pillow :D
( Lace me up. )

I love guitar picks (plectrums) as pendents, but most guitar pick necklaces are sooo boring. So, I made this:

Button design contest is coming up on July 15!!
Each year, people who take part in the 24 hour zine thing get a button for their efforts, whether they finish their zine or not. Buttons are going to be sent all over the world. You can check out the participants at 24hourzines.com.
The buttons are going to be circular 1″ wide. Bigger images will be sized down to that. If you draw it at 1″, leave a little bit of a border in your design so the edge isn’t blank. Submission will be accepted until mid-July, and then voted on. The most adored shall become this year’s zine scene button.
Send your submissions (and any questions) to design@24hourzines.com.
You can also submit designs via the postal service:
