One yard of cotton muslin (folded in this picture, other side is more or less the same) that I folded in half to the shape shown in the picture, accordion pleated, and then clamped with good old 2" spring clamps from Home Depot. Well, technically m'friend Matt clamped it because they were too hard for me to open and close *blush*. I've since purchased a bunch of smaller clamps I can use myself, heh. The little capsule shapes are the clamp marks. I don't know if I'll get such distinct marks with the smaller clamps as they don't clamp as hard. I tried clothespins on a similar piece, but I guess that only really works with pieces that are smaller and therefore thinner when pleated. No real marks from the clothespins.
I dyed it with Dylon Permanent dye, black. But your eyes do not deceive you; it came out a dark blue with the slightest green tint. It wasn't what I expected, but I think I actually like it more than if it had come out black/grey/white. All the same, once I've exhausted my stash of Dylon, I'll be starting to experiment with ProMX "real" dyes.
I'm super happy with it and I've already turned it into a skirt, which I'll have to post soon too.

Be(e)ing.

Hi.

I've been lurking for a while but finally got myself some Fimo supplies (☆ω☆)& now need a bit of advice & inspiration.

Could anyone point me in the direction of some good Fimo craft sites?
What would you reccommend my "essentials" be?

I already have several blocks of Fimo -altho. I managed to pick up "Dolphin Grey" instead of "White"
(°□°;)- Plastic Modelling Tools -would I be better off getting a stainless set?, Satin Varnish, & a Bead Maker.

Is there anything that you could reccommend buying? At the moment I'm simply making handmade beads (little stars, squares, round beads, little animal heads, that sort of thing) while I'm waiting for my Ebay buys to arrive (incl. findings).

Any hints or tips welcome!

Any advice is very much appreciated,
Thanks!

Have any cyclists in this community applied any of their craft skills to their bikes? I'm thinking paint jobs, transfers, etc. Or maybe you've crafted some high-visibility garments to wear whilst cycling?

Please post pics if you have them!

Has anyone tried this product for items that would be exposed to the elements? I'm curious to see if this is the type of Modge Podge I'm looking for. I've used the regular stuff and while it dries fine, once it gets a little wet or near moister, it gets tacky again. I was using this to adhere and finish off frabric on wooden boxes and I though of using a clear varnish or something to seal over the top coat of Modge Podge. The link is here:

If anyone has had experience with this, I'd love to hear it.

Hi All

I’ve looked through the memories but can’t find any info on this. I’ve got a frame that I’m trying to put a new bit of screenprinting material in it. It’s a speedball frame and for the life of me I can’t manage to get it really taut and tight like it is when I bought the ready made frame. I’ve tried holding the material in place with drawing pins (and leaving a bit of slack so when I pull it tight there’s enough room) and just tried to get it even. But which ever way I do it, it’s never as tight as the shop bought one and sometimes right near the edges near the frame, it’s ever so slightly wavy.

So how do you guys manage it?? I’ve only ever done one screenprint before and forgot to wash it all off and it’s now permanent (hence me needing to change it).

Thanks sooo much! Sorry for the text only post.

Ok, 2 different things that popped up around the same time. My bosses sister wanted me to make some sort of gothic-y jewelry for her daughter whose going to some gothic show or parade at Disney?!? I didn't know Disney was down with the goths, but I guess I learn a new thing everyday. :) I'm more of a John Mayer/Michael Buble kinda girl and I'm totally stumped as to what exactly being goth consists of. When I think goth, I think black and skulls...that's about it. ::shrugs:: So what to do? Numero dos... I just found out my cousins 6 month old died in his sleep. I really don't get along with that part of the family...haven't spoken to em in years so I really don't know why they made the long trip to my house to let me know. My gramma wants me to play nice and I couldn't be farther from lending a shoulder to cry on so I figured ... make something since they always seemed to be amazed by the little things I came up with when I was younger. Problem is, I've never had to make something for someone who has lost a child who I barely even knew. So I'm looking for something that says "Sorry for your loss" but have it not be too sentimental where I'd have her trying to come over and crying her woes to me. I know, I sound rather bitchy and heartless... but I've never been good with feelings, emotions, crying...that sorta crapola. Blame it on my parents. So, any sorta ideas would help. Some sort of scrapbook/mementos thing would be nice, but again, we don't talk so I don't have pictures or anything. And I think shes got more important things in mind right now then to send me some, anyway. Id like to have whatever it is by the viewing.. which would probably be next week sometime. Oh, and the jewelry by tuesday.

Oh, yes...forgot to mention...walking into my craft room is like walking into Michaels....I have it all. So clay, mosaic, resin...whatever u can think of...I'm sure I have the supplies. Just nothing from the sewing department because my machine has been having brain farts lately.

musings...

hello all you ingenious little crafters! i've been a lurker for a little bit and decided it was time to try and get my questions answered.

currently. i'm living in Alaska with the beau while he works up here. and we've made the big scary adult decision to move in together when we go back home in a month and a half. so i'm eating up any ideas i can get when it comes to DiY interior decorating.

including the notion that i could possibly enlarge some of my favorite digital photos that i've taken and hang them up as [relatively] poster-sized pictures.

does anyone know of any reliable and reasonably priced places online that can do this? has anyone even attempted this? i've frugally googled the idea and intend to attack the situation more voraciously in the morning. but i hoped i could pull some connections in this lovely community since it's been so helpful in the past.

thanks so much for any help you can offer! <3

Hello,

I've been all through the memories, and all over the internet in search of a Chefs jacket pattern.
Does anyone know where I might find one?

Also, has anyone ever taken the Wiltons cake decorating course at Michaels?
I've just signed up for course 1 and was wondring what  supplies were needed.

Thanks!
