I hope there are fans of the webcomic 'Dinosaur Comics' in this community. I'm a big fan. That lovable dinosaur inspired me to burn a design onto one of those blank incense boxes from a crafts store:

You'll thank me when you share my politics

The writing on the side reads, "You'll thank me when you share my politics," one of T-Rex's many quotable lines.

Sometime in the next couple of months, I will be moving from San Diego, California to Vancouver, Washington.

Are there any craftgrrls from the Portland / Vancouver area? Can you guys recommend craft stores in the area? Craft faires? Other fun things / events / etc. for serious crafters?

Any recommendations would be great, thank you! =)

Here are the Boy Wizard, the Boy Wizard's best friend and behind them the Headmaster and the Potions Teacher for your amusement.

I had fun making them and they did sell at DragonCon sort of as a set since the same person bought all four of them.

Ever since I saw a little mini tutorial on reupholstering, I've wanted to try it so bad. And over the weekend I finally got my chance!

Unfortunately, I was too excited to even take before pictures, so there are just the afters. The bench used to have a zebra print fabric on it, but that was WAY too cat-hair-sticky (or whatever you want to call it) so my sister decided that she wanted pink, sparkly vinyl put on it instead. And thus, within half an hour, she had a new...
That we're hoping won't be torn up by the kitty claws. D:

It was really fun - I've already told my boyfriend that we're reupholstering his couch next summer. Woo!

Tonight I am doing bunches of cutting and pasting followed by lotsa writing if I have enough ambition left. Who so am I doing this. Making product tags and business cards :) I like the look and feel and since this is still small scale it's easier and likely cheaper this way. I'll post some when I have a few done. Anywho, I'm likely going to be tossing Labrynth into the vcr (yes, I only currently had a copy on tape), breakfast club or Princess Bride or some other fun, light movie that I know well and can just listen too, watch the parts I just have to see and have something else creative around me. Maybe all depending on how long a go this is. I'm currently listening to 80's classics while I do the cutting.

So, what do you gals do to make long project go by, have some added fun or just keep you movin?

While I was watching GoF today, I noticed that in the scene where Ron is upset after asking Fleur to the ball Ginny is wearing what looks like a crocheted vest...or a knit cardigan with a crocheted front.  It looks to me like it might be granny squares or hexagons.  I was just wondering if anyone has been able to find a pattern for this...possibly as a vest.  Sorry the pictures aren't better.

I hope I'm not getting boring when posting these, but this will actually be the last post I make with them in a while eheh, since I'm running out of flowers and don't know when I'll create more, uff! So, here it is the 4th batch of my vintage plastic flowers headbands:

I've been lurking this community for a long time - so many great projects! (and so much inspiration!) and FINALLY have one of my own to post :)

He is a kitty cat doll (amigurumi style) who I have named Mojito. I also quickly did up a receiving blanket so I could wrap him up, since he was a present for a baby shower.

I'm so proud because I've mostly just stuck to crocheting toques and scarves (and the odd bag or two). Yay crochet!

I'm living in an eight-person dorm suite this year, and most of us are slightly pretty Asia-obsessed. So far we've decorated our common room in a variety of gold and red tones, including recovering the chairs and couches, replacing the lampshades, taping red-and-gold ribbon to the ceiling [it's prettier than it sounds], hanging Japan-related posters, and hanging paper lanterns in the window. [For the record, our RA thinks we're crazy.]

Now, we have a large window [approximately 5'6"x6'6"] on one wall of our suite, and some of us got the bright idea to paint a koi pond on it.

This is the image we want to model it after.. )

Now I have a few questions..

First, what kind of paint do we need? I know there's paint specifically for windows [a quick trip to Hobby Lobby provided that information], but is there a specific brand that would provide the best colours for this job? The paint doesn't have to be translucent, since we'll leave enough of the window unpainted to still see through and let in light.

Also, is there a certain type of brush we should use? And how easy would it be to remove the paint at the end of the year? Since we live in a dorm, we can't have anything permanent or which will damage the window. How durable is this paint? Will it rub off on other things or fade a great deal?

And while we're on the subject, what would the best place to buy such paint be? The only craft stores I know of nearby are Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Meijer [so my suitemate claims, although I don't remember seeing one], and Wal-Mart, but buying the paints online is not a problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer! I'll post pictures of everything when we're done.
