Hello! I'm living in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) for a few months, and I was wondering if any of you are from around here or have been here - what crafty stores do people recommend? So far I've been to Mouline Yarns, I've been told to go to La Bobbineuse, and I've found a neat little ribbon and button shop on Rue St-Denis.

I'm primarily a knitter and spinner, but I dabble in sewing and all sorts of things, so if there's any crafty sort of shop you like, I'd love to hear about it!

I'm from Australia, so I don't even know what the chain stores on this continent are.

For a bit of an idea of what I do - here's my current big project:

Lace shawl. Alpaca. Sorry the colour blends in with my jeans, but I like that picture anyway.

(Language is not much of a problem, I understand enough French to get by)

Hello ladies. I had a question.

I have a Dremel and well...

I don't really like how you turn it on and it stays on until you turn it off. I'd rather have like a trigger or something of that nature so I don't have to start and stop repeatedly. They put that on/off switch in the wierdest place on that thing.

Any suggestions?

And Here's What I've Been Working On Lately )

Thanks in advance for the help!

in addition to my recycled scarecrow, now I've made "jack o lanterns".

Who know what other recyclable Autumn decor I can come up with?
(and yes, it's GOT to be "AUTUMN" and not "HALLOWEEN" because my DAD is a preacher and I live in his house. So... boo. I'm doing the ghosts anyway. Because I can. But that's why the faces are so pleasant. Family friendly and whatnot.)

Opinions?

I think that I'm getting the hang of the round corners now.

Hey crafty ladies! So, halloween is less than a month away, and my local pet store is having a pet costume contest. Well, my boyfriend and I have 6 hamsters, so I thought it would be cool to do a Wizard of Oz theme. Characters including Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, Good Witch and Bad witch.

I have ideas for most of the costumes, but I can't figure out how to make the Bad Witch and Scarecrow so they don't look so much the same (they're both black with a hat).

Luckily, they'll take picture submissions, because I couldn't imagine dressing them all up at once! Haha.

Well, any help/tips/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] lintqueen suggested Toto instead of the Bad Witch, which is perfect!

I've got a few ideas, but I'm still trying to come up with things. This is the situation:

I'm going to be kidsitting and will be giving the two fourth graders I'm sitting Spanish lessons twice a week for 30 minutes each day. I want to do fun things with them to help them learn. I'm looking for crafts, songs, or anything else you can think of that might help. This is the order in which I will be teaching them over the next 5 weeks and the activities I already have planned. When I say "worksheet", I don't mean the crap boring worksheets in school. I have lots of fun images and also am going to be doing "real world" type stuff.

1.
Alphabet: Pronunciation and accents/tildes - Songs, flashcards

2.
Numbers: 1 - 10 (& higher if they do well) Pronunciation & Memorization - Songs (do you know any?) & Flashcards
Worksheet: Picture of room, ocean scene, whatever. In English, questions one through 10 will be "How many whatever are there?"

3.
Colors
Worksheet: Picture of room, ocean scene, whatever. In English, questions 1 through 5 will be "How many -spanish color- whatever are there?". Questions 6 through 10 will be "What color is the whatever?"
Worksheet: Paint by number, with the numbers in Spanish (uno, dos, tres) and the colors written in Spanish. Like this: Color "numero dos" with the "azul" crayon.

4. Simple words: Cat, Dog, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Friend, House, Car, Gum
Worksheet: What color is the gato?, how many perros are there?

5.
Question words: Who, what, when, where, why, how, how many/much
Worksheet: Fill in the blank, with words, colors, and numbers. For example:
____________ is amarillo in this picture?
what

____________ books are there on the verde bookshelf?
how many

I have a lot of fun ideas, crafts, and activities planned that I'm not listing here, but I want to hear anything neat you can think of that might be fun!

Thanks in advance for all of you guys' help!

Sunprints!

At long last- I've been wanting to do this forever! Does anyone else remember playing with sunprint paper as a kid? Instead of ordering the pre-made paper I went ahead and ordered the chemicals myself and spent Saturday coating paper and fabric. I've got enough to make an awful lot, so these are all just for practice.

It's extremely difficult to capture the true blue color with my camera, neither of these pictures are quite right, so I'm going to try scanning them in directly later.

Here's my new coffee table! I've been trying to finish it for a few weeks, and I finally got around to it. It was a pain in the butt!

But here it is in all its glory:

I've been enjoying making art-stuffs out of wood lately. Here's the first almost-finished piece. I cut the wood pieces out with a scroll saw, carved the details with a flex shaft tool (attachment for a dremel), and then painted it. It's almost done, I've got 2 small birds I also cut out of wood, which will be attached as soon as I paint them. (They have wire wings and legs.)

Here's a few more close up shots. )

Hello Ladies!

Just a quick question- what craft magazines do you subscribe to or buy on a regular basis?  There are a few that I have been interested in but I thought I'd ask the craftiest girls on earth what they were reading before I subscribed!  Thanks so much!

I'm sooo proud!  It's a Jayne Cobb hat, from Firefly, for my best friend, who asked me to make him one about a year ago.  I had trouble finding the right yarn,x-posted to craftster
