Hey hey

I'm currently decorating my bike in electrical tape (PVC tape). I've covered the entire thing, I was wondering if it'd be possible to apply another layer of something over it to secure it/ make it easer to clean. Lacquer, varnish? I have no idea what will work, does anyone have any experience with this/ suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Might anyone know of a site that has a pattern to make a little ninja doll? (Not a knitted or crocheted one, by the way.)

I'm hoping to make my boyfriend a ninja doll to match the sumo-wrestler I gave him during the summer. We're celebrating our pretend birthdays October 15th, and I'm broke until then, and won't be able to buy him a present, so I thought a little buddy for his sumo wrestler would be nice - and I actually have the materials to make it. (Yeah - I don't even have money for supplies D: )

I've really just started out sewing though, so I don't really know how to make doll patterns - that and I don't have extra material to attempt a few trial & errors with. Thus I was wondering if anyone had come across a pattern for a ninja doll, or who might be able to help me whip one up myself.

Any help would be fabulous - thank you! <3

Has anyone ordered swatches off Fabric.com? When you get them, how big are they? I looked on the site and couldn't really find any sort of measurement for them. Then again, it was really late and I could be blind, but I swear I didn't see any...

I made this guy a couple of days ago. I'm really happy with how he turned out. goggly eyes and a felt mouth are hot glued on.

I used to buy glass beaded snowflake kits from Michael's and AC Moore, but their selection has been terrible.. So, I was wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of some sites that sell really nice kits (other beaded Christmas ornament kits would be great too)?

Thanks!

finally... FINALLY. the sidewalk is (practically) finished.

My husband and I have been working on this sidewalk for over a year (not to mention the pause for frozen solid ground in the winter).

Sorry for the crapload of pictures, but damn. I'm so glad to be (nearly) finished. What do you think of it all?

I don't know if it's exactly crafty, but I have an idea...

I've always found that one of the easiest ways for me to learn something is to put it into a song form. I know the states and capitols, presidents in order, and monarchs of england in order all because of songs. I've also written a few myself for some of my classes (environmental science to the tune of Journey's Small Town Girl, for example).

That said, there just really aren't a large amount of FREE learning/teaching songs out there. So... What do you guys think about writing and recording our own? I can't sing well AT ALL, so I don't want to put my voice on the tracks, but I am pretty good at writing them and fitting information together well in the lyrics.

I'll probably make a separate community for it if there's enough interest, but for now, this is kind of what I'm thinking...

First, we should make a comprehensive list of "learning/teaching songs" that we already know of and where we can listen to them online FOR FREE. Here are the ones I know of at the moment:

Presidents of the United States (PG-13!!!):
Number 5 on http://www.matthewmatic.com/

Presidents of the United States:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2YR80hTRmw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P3W3LKw1d0

States and Capitols:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0w72RvPQ80

Nations of the World:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dglc0MdJy8A

Schoolhouse Rock (Many Songs Listed Here):
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=schoolhouse+rock&search=Search

Spanish Alphabet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abVbLbcKwOg

If you know of any others, please post them in the comments so I can add them to the list.

What I'm looking to do is take simple information that would be beneficial for the general public to know, like The Vice Presidents in Order, Bones in the Body, Spanish Numbers, French Alphabet, etc and write the lyrics to the tune of catchy songs, like The Jackson 5's ABC or Brittany Spears' Crazy. I know, I know, they're not the most glamorous tunes, but they're catchy and upbeat and will keep people, especially kids, entertained.

So... what I need is a few partners in crime, especially a few who don't mind lending their voices to the tracks. I'm hoping to put out a new song maybe once every couple of weeks or so via youtube. We can even make a website with all of the videos posted there and a list of people who wrote/sang them, lyrics, etc.

So... Anyone up for helping me with this unique adventure?

Thoughts, suggestions, and comments very welcome!

Okay, so it's my first post to this community after having lurked for a few weeks...

I've always been fairly hands on and crafty, but after school (where I absolutely adored art and textiles classes), about six years ago now, my crafting and tinkering slowed down. This place has inspired me so much, that a couple of weekend ago, I dragged my sorry backside down to IKEA and my local craft store (and my dads shed, of which lurks an insane number of half used paint pots) and set about creating myself a crafting/work space in the corner of my rather dinky bedroom.

More pictures! )

Overall, the project cost me about £27, not including the materials I already had knocking around. Not too bad, could have been cheaper if I went and hunted out a second hand chair and/or table, but considering I now have space to craft and a ton of motivation, I'd say it was money well spent! :)

Andrea.

Gold Bedlah

Last weekend I finished this, a commissioned bedlah for a local dancer I often work with. I'm excited to see it on her. Heck, I'm excited to see it ON. I'm not a big girl, but the owner is at least 5 inches smaller than me in every dimention (even time)

My hands hurt.

I am willing to answer any questions you may have about the construction.

I made a custom order of pins and magnets made from these old atlases I've found in various places and I just figured I'd post pictures.
