When doing shrinky dinks is it better to draw the design on the rough side or the smooth side? Thanks in advance!

My Halloween Softie swap is complete!

My first swap ever was also a Halloween one.
I was so excited that I just sent everything when I finished.
I forgot to include a note or even take pictures of it.
I didn't forget this time around :D

Hey all---
First post (as far as I can remember)! I have been painting alot since moving into my own place and I would love some opinions/constructive criticisms about some of my "art."

Hi, I'm new here but I've been lurking for a while!
I was really bored over the weekend and felt like making something for my room and thought I'd show it off.

Ok, so it has been roughly 6 years since I have worked with clay- (back in my high school days) but recently I wanted to work with it again so I picked up some red clay. Now I have a small sculpture and no kiln, and my question is- Is there any way I can "fire" it without going out and finding a kiln? I know that it's not that oven bake children's stuff, but is it possible to use the oven? (I'm sorry if this is a stupid question)

I was looking for some online shops to buy shrinky dinks (none available in my area) when I came across this blog http://www.curbly.com/Chrisjob/posts/2252-DIY-Shrinky-Dinks-

has anybody tried this? Success? Failure? Thoughts?

It would be interesting to try but I currently have no #6 plastics. And I wonder why use the #6...hmmm

sorry for text only. I did make some button pendants and earrings, a crochet scarf, and a crochet coin purse over the weekend. Pictures yet to come!

I'm curious because the term 'craft' still seems to conjure up images of doilies in my experience. I visited some galleries on the weekend and my partner and I spoke to one of the curators about a craft and zine fair we are organising and you could see the eyes glaze over when the word craft was mentioned...

should we be calling it textile art? something else?

cheers

i took a box that i actually received one of my collars in from the Collar Factory and jazzed it up to make it a box to hold all my collars.  I used a hot glue gun and first i hot glued fabric to the outside of the box, and then i hot glued faux fur as the inside lining and as the soft outer cover.  i used fabric to cover the box first in order to try to hide any imperfections.

Hello all,

I've been brainstorming christmas gifts to make for my school friends, and have been (for the past several hours) on a fruitless search for clear glass cabochons, of the kind that can be used to make pendants such as this one

I know that TAP plastics sells circular, clear acrylic cabochons of the sort, but I would prefer an oval, rather than round, shape, and one that I would be able to match to the various pre-fabricated cabochon mounts or bezel cups sold at fire mountain gems (fire mountain has glass cabs, but only opaque cat-eyes).

I've thought about using glass "marbles" of the type that one uses for marble magnets, and of simply gluing a bail onto the back, but I'm afraid that craft marbles would be too heavy to wear comfortably as pendants.  I've also thought about using the bottlecap-and-diamond glaze option, but I used that to make some magnets for my grandparents last christmas and the finish didn't have the polished, smooth-looking quality that I would want out of a piece of jewelry for one of my intended recipients (the bottlecap technique is rather more rustic and homemade looking).

Does anybody have any suggestions?

[and so that this post isn't only text...the following is a work in progress piece of art...excuse the large watermark; it was a safety precaution for posting in my public blog; i promise i don't have a store or anything]

I remember seeing an interesting coloring book posted in this community.  My memory is horrible but I believe it was Japanese, perhaps?  Can anyone direct me to it from this extremely vague description.  Sorry!

So, my friend is a huge fan of themed birthday parties, and this year, everyone has to come as an animal. I obviously took me about 7 seconds to think of an animal to go as, but now I'm stuck...

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could make a duck costume?

Thanks!

So my dad bought me a bureau at a tag sale for $50, I thought it was ugly and worth about 50 cents. But its all wood.

Anyway I painted it and added new pulls. I got really impatient and it needs another coat, but Im happy for now :)

I want to make a large square floor pillow like the one seen here.  I'd like to use a firm stuffing so my butt doesn't hit the floor through the pillow.  Does anyone have suggestions?

I don't know what it means, but it's cute! )
