I want to make a vintage cardboard village and was wondering if any of you knew where I could find little plastic deer or bottle brush trees at a good price?

Soapy soap

Oh, hey guys. I just jumped on the band wagon and made some 'fake' soap.
I have a few questions though. What can I go to make it stop smelling so glycerine - y? Oh my goodness, that smell makes me gag! I've been putting scent in - sometimes up to 15 drops per cup! It's still there! What can I do!?
Also - I'd like some different scents and I'm not finding the ones I want at Michaels. Can I use 'essential oils' to scent the soap? I'm talking about the oils you buy to put into a little burner above a tealite and it makes your place smell awesome. Would this be harmful to the skin?
Last question - how do you think I should package these soaps?
Well - onward...

In 1890, the original version of the board game "Round the World with Nellie Bly" came without pieces or die--the board was simply printed in the Jan. 26 Sunday issue of the New York World. Though later the game was marketed as a complete boxed set well into the early 20th century, I wanted to take (a copy of) the original and make it into playable form.

I've seen a lot of great gift ideas in the memories section for male friends and boyfriends, but what are some good craft ideas for DADS? I'm looking for something a bit more sophisticated and "mature" than the funky gifts we make for our peers.

Any ideas? THANKS!

I did the whole color the item then drop rubbing alchol on it let it sit for a while day and dry, but when I did a ice cold water rince anywhere that was white turned pink and the water instantly turned orangy and on its second cold rinse again the water turned colors, now pink. Any way to make this permenant or will it always run? By the way I got the idea of using sharpies on this group.

This is how my efforts turned out BEFORE soaking in cold water to see if it'd bleed, I was pretty stoked about how neat it came out, now if only it wouldn't bleed like it did.

I made my doggie a new bed. It took like 15 minutes and I know it's simple. I just think it's cute.

There is some new Echino fabric out right now! Finally! So far I have made this purse. I am also almost done a purse out of her leopard fabric. I'll post that when I can.

My sister is one of the hardest people to buy and make things for because of her specific style.

Well, after making a huge list online of items I thought she'd like and asking her to pick, she replied with even more stuff and etc... I ended up not even using anything on the list.

Walking through Target yesterday, I saw a necklace that absolutely caught my eye as my sister's style. Then, almost all the way across the rack, I found a bracelet that would go with it.

Knowing my sister, she HAS to have matching necklace, bracelet, earrings and rings. She's very well put together, to say the very least... so after I blew my budget (it's small this year) on the two items, I got myself home and crafted her a ring and earrings to match it all.

Hi! This is my first time posting *waves*.. this seems like a helpful community!

So this may seem like a strange request, but I bought a Bucilla felt stocking kit last year on clearance and I just opened it last night hoping to make it for my niece for this Christmas. Unfortunately, I found out that the majority of the instructions (specifically pages 3 and 4) are for the wrong kit!! Does anyone happen to have the "Sugar Plum Fairy" kit, and would they mind scanning pages 3 and 4 of the instructions??

I know this is a stretch.. but I've got my fingers crossed that someone can help me here. ;o) I did email the company, but who knows how long it will take them to get back to me.

Hi craftgrrls :)

I hand-sewed this stretchy fabric into this ring-ish form. And then sewed the vintage button to it, and voila :)

Easy and pretty :)

I've done some painting on boxes and other things, but my paints always seem to stay just a little bit sticky. Is there some kind of clear coat I could put on over the paint that would dry non-sticky? It's a pain when you work really hard on something, but then every time you open the box, the paint peels off a little more. I thought about dusting it with some kind of powder, but don't want to alter the color. I haven't used Modge Podge or any of that stuff, so I don't know how that works. I've used Sculpt Or Coat because I got a bunch free at a technical theatre convention (USITT, if there are any techies here) and I love it, but was hoping for something more readily available and that I could just run to the store and pick up rather than having to order online. Thanks!

I have many questions concerning making lip balm.

When making lip balm would it be okay to use a regular chapstick (see here) that doesn't have a flavor instead of using beeswax or petroleum jelly? I have a brand new one and instead of using it I wanted to make my own and add my own flavor to it. Would I be able to do that? I also have one of vaseline (see here) that I was wondering if I could do the same thing to. I didn't see anything that resembled my question in the memories.

I'd also like to know if anyone knew what flavor is used in the Labello (ie: Nivea Lip Care) Med Protection. My brother bought some of this when he last visited Poland and it smells so good. I want to know if I'd be able to make something that smells and tastes exactly like it. Unfortunately, it's not available here and I'm not too keen on buying things online..or even overseas. Especially, something as small as lip balm.

What types of things in the kitchen would I be able to use to add flavors? I saw one tutorial that said I could use cocoa (like the instant mix stuff) to make lip balm. Would I be able to use cinnamon?

Just one more question. Could someone recommend a brand of essential oil (does this include flavor and not just scent?) that I could possibly find in Wal*Mart, Target, Michaels, or even Haar's (an herbal food store). Like I said, I don't buy things online so I have to work with what's available to me.

In honor of sending in my UC Apps, I made a dress today. I absolutely love this floral fabric that my grandma gave me last summer. This was made without a pattern, modeled after a 70's dress that I saw in a vintage store yesterday.

After dark, the only place in my house with adequate lighting is the bathroom. So YAY you get to see my bathroom :-)

Meet Narissa. She's rather shy (part of being a Loch Ness monster) but still enjoys a good cup of tea (Earl Grey) with close friends.
