I got this idea from a Muppets craft book, haha. I basically just cut up old t-shirts into thin strips and braided them together (I wish I had a picture of the braid, it was like, 34657457 feet long) and then sewed them up with yarn to make the rug. Apparently there's a way to do it to crochet it in so you don't have to sew it at the end. That would've been easier. I also wish I had paid more attention to the colors and the patterns they were making, so it didn't look all random but oh well.
Egg Cartons
Mar. 4th, 2008 09:13 amI work with a group of kids between kindergarten and 6th grade in an after school program, and we have a bunch of egg cartons that I really want to do a craft with...but I'm stumped. Do any of you ladies have any ideas, or know where I could possibly find some?
Oh, and the after school program is also at a Jewish center, so anything that has to do with the Easter holiday is completely out...

For my friend
Mar. 4th, 2008 01:13 pm
We all long for love. However, sometimes things do not work out the way we wish them to be. When love comes to an end, we shall open our hearts and let go. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and embrace a new beginning.
Crane folded with felt for my friend. I use felt because it is softer and warmer than paper. Blue represents healing, tranquility, understanding, softness, knowledge, and power. I always have trouble with origami so it looks a bit strange... ;o; I hope it will still bring her luck and strength.
More beads?
Mar. 4th, 2008 03:13 pmI bought a string of these beads last weekend at a gem and mineral show. I didn't get the guy's card, so I have no idea where to get more. Does anyone know where to get some more (preferably at a reasonable/good price)?

( cut for 2 more pictures. One more of the glowy beads, and one of all of the beads I got )
Thanks! :-D
Edit: Thank you for your replies everyone! I got more replies than I have time to reply individually! They turned out to be Opalite, aka fake Sea Opal, which makes sense because I thought they were opal when I first saw them (but price indicated otherwise). I ordered some more from Ebay for a fraction of the price I paid for the others. I'll be checking out the rest of the links after work though! Then, I'll post pictures of what I made when I make them! :-D

So, the president of our company just came to me and asked for my help on a special art project. We're moving into a new office in June, and they have some leftover doors that he thought would be neat to use in some creative way. The doors have glass panes in them, and he thought it would be fun to hang them on the wall with pictures of staff and of the new office remodel/move in the glass panes. Could be interesting.
I immediately thought they'd look great as a table (kind of like you see here). Maybe hang onto the picture frame idea too. Use them in the employee break room, or even in a conference room. I've got a little time to come up with ideas, and I'm welcome to go see the site and the doors when I like. They'll cover materials within a certain reasonable amount.
Another idea I had was to use Gallery Glass and do the company logo on the glass for a stained-glass look.
Man, this could be fun! Has anyone else worked with doors before? Any ideas for a fun way to use them?

Conflict Earrings!
Mar. 4th, 2008 05:51 pmI recently posted some peace sign earrings that I made to this community, and during the discussion I decided to create these conflict earrings:

I had fun making these. I used a mixture of coated copper wire and sterling. The earwires are Niobium, and the beads are a random stone, wood and silver assortment from my collection. The garnet drops at the bottom represent blood.

omg! BUTTONS
Mar. 4th, 2008 08:36 pmmy mom passed me a jar of old buttons that my grandmother found in her attic the other day.
it was a freaking treasure trove! so many amazing buttons. and the best. ohh the best.
so many real mother of pearl buttons. probaly 40 or 50. i think most if not all are handcarved. (can they even machine make real mop buttons?)
most of them are 1/2 an inch or less, and off white. but i have 4 tiny matched ones that are bronzy and black, one medium sized blue one (dyed), one medium sized grey one that shifts to black across it, and one medium sized bronze/copper one. and my fav two, one is medium sized (bout 3/4 an inch) and shifts from black to grey, and has an intricate carved pattern with a chip, the other is an inch across, a creamy ivory with a rose tint and inticately carved as well.
ohh they are so gorgeous. some of them are worn so thin i know i could never use them. but oh they are all so gorgeous.
and so this isn't text only

Literally - I superglued my jeans to my thigh while making him. They were my last damn pair of pants too - and now I have a huge hole and a mean chemical burn. But it's worth it!
I'm stuck without a job for a few months while I wait for my green card, so I've been doing lots of crafts. I'm getting really good at sculpting in polymer clay - this is my little prehistoric fisherman. He's my first completed OOAK sculpt, which is an achievement!
