In my on-going dementia to provide my good friend with octopodes I decorated his birthday cake with marzipan octopodes I made. The silver things (dragée ) are to represent tiny bubbles boiling up from the sea. I didn't ice the cake or bake it. Just added the octopodes, raspberries and dragées . I got the cake from Sugar Bakery on Madison (Seattle), a lemon cake with lime curd. Sweet but not cloying.

I made Luna Love good earrings  to wear for the next showing of the half blood prince
I used beads instead of poly clay.
They look very similar.
I'm excited, i'm not much of a crafty person and I feel as though I've became successful!
pictures soon....when i get a camera

I cane a lot. Most of my canes are layering canes where you essentially collage all the design in layers, bake and sand like mad. Some of my canes are what I call 'slice bead' canes. These are the fun and easy stuff! Slice, bake, put a hole and it's a bead! Yay! My last one was a Canada flag cane I did.

i have been wanting to learn how to do tapestry crochet for quite some time, so yesterday i decided to do the skullholders pattern from the book The Happy Hooker. except, i didnt really want potholders, so i made it into a pillow.

Sculpey

I'm in the process of making some summertime jewelry and I made a watermelon cane out of sculpey. When I cut it with a knife, it obviously squished beyond repair. Then I used some monofilament and it worked a bit better, but it was still a little bit squished at the part that touched the table.

What's the secret to getting perfectly round beads off a polymer clay cane?
And what do you do with your leftovers at the ends? I mushed mine up into strange designs and baked them for the fun of it. I may be able to get some good pendants out of them.

Pics soon when I decide how to put them all together.
I just want the advice now because I'm thinking of starting up some more canes in the next few days.

What are some more simple designs I can practice my cane making with?

Hi, craftgrrls!  I just joined the community today.  I'm a craftguuy, and I'm kinda new to crafting, so I might ask a dumb question or two... or seven.  My latest project has been making lip balm.  One batch was a partial success, one batch was a total failure, and one batch was just right (Goldilocks, anyone?).  I've given some out to friends, and they say that the scent of my favorite batch reminds them of Andes Chocolate Mints.  I want to come up with some kind of name for this balm so I don't have to keep calling it "lip balm recipe number two... the one that's minty and chocolatey but not as shiny as recipe one."  I've narrowed it down to three choices.  Which one do you guys like best?

1. Mint Chocolate Lip (like Mint Chocolate Chip)

2. Andy's Chocolate Mint (a play on Andes Chocolate Mint, since a common nickname for the males in my family is Andy)

3. Cocoamint (because it has cocoa butter and mint in it)
