I make renaissance and medieval costumes, so after each project, I usually have little scraps of jacquard trim leftover. I stick them all in a grocery bag, and when it's full, I make something out of all the little scraps. Recently I've had extra metal filagree pieces too..

So I made some cute patchwork purses- large pics ahead- not great for dial up! )

I made them basically the same way you crazy quilt- they are sewn onto a piece of fabric, I use the decorative stitches on my machine in contrasting colors. It's a good way to use up the weird colored thread too.

The backing fabric is just scraps from projects. It's a great way to use all the little pieces from projects.

I have also made throw pillows the same way.

We're having our annual Halloween party this Saturday, and I'm working on adding to my Haunted Mansion themed decorations.

I'm trying to recreate my own version of these (on a much cheaper scale, of course), found in the Haunted Mansion:
(photo from doombuggies.com, if anyone's interested. It's an awesome site!)

Here's the tutorial I'm using:

and here's what I've come up with so far:

It's so much fun!! Everyone should try it! :)

More pictures of the work in progress here and here.

Hi one of your friendly neighborhood mods poping in for a reminder.

There is no selling in craftgrrl. This includes adverts, selling links and (what seems to be our problem of late) posts along the lines of "gee I'm selling these...by the way here's my email". The email thing is sneaky, underhanded AND against the rules. If you want to sell your crafts please please do it somewhere else 'cause I hate having to ban people.

If you see something posted in here that you absolutely must have check the posters user info or journal for details, if that doesn't work try to message them. Asking about selling in comments should be an absolute last ditch effort.

I've noticed that we are getting a lot of business related questions lately (5 in one day!)... while they are allowed, they are discouraged (craftgrrl is a place to show off and get input on crafts...not for selling)... there used to be a community for the business side of crafts but I see it went belly up so I made [livejournal.com profile] crafts4money for that sort of thing. If you sell or are interested in selling and want to talk about it then come on over!

By the way the rules are in the user info along with a lot of great stuff so if you haven't read it lately then check it out!

ok back to your regularly scheaduled crafts...
