I liked my costume this year even though I didn't get to wear it anywhere, and I want to further improve it. What I have in mind involves a design on velvet with some black and some colors. The bug is that my fabric-painting knowledge does not include velvet, so a question for the more knowledgeable: would I be better off starting with black and discharging the areas I want to paint other colors, or start with white and paint each field? I'll be using thickened silk dye for my "paint."

Dying fabric?
Nov. 2nd, 2008 10:06 amHey girls, I have a question. I have a pair of tan ugg boots and at my work we're only allowed to wear black shoes, so I was wondering how would I go about dying suede boots. Just because its not your everyday fabric you would normally dye, I dont know if there would be any special things I would have to do for it. Any advice/help would be great. Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope everyones Halloween was amazing!
I have a few of these:

I cut pieces of vintage books to fit each frame. I coated them with Judikins MicroGlaze to improve durability, but I have a problem. Everyone wants to open the pendants! When they do, my little bits of paper come floating out. Also, some of the frames don't close tightly enough and the papers slip around a little.
I really prefer to make a nice sturdy product. I think I need to adhere the paper to something, maybe matting like is used when framing pictures? I need something with a little thickness and a little give...
I'm also wondering if I'll be able to glue or tape any of the ones I've already MicroGlazed.
Ideas? Input?

día de los muertos doll

perdia
perdita is, if you'll pardon the expression, always the life of the all the día de los muertos festivities. it does still irk her a bit though, that she'll never be quite eligible for día de los inocentes, not after that mid-october incident anyway.

Beady things
Nov. 2nd, 2008 02:22 pmJust as I got out all my tubs of beading stuff to start on Christmas presents last week, someone asked me to go halves on them on a table at a small local craft fair. Somehow I don't think I'll manage both, but here are some things I came up with, of indeterminate future!

stamping questions
Nov. 2nd, 2008 11:55 pmDear stampers,
Is an embossing tool/gun really necessary? Can you get by with a hair dryer perhaps? Please let me know about your successes and/or failures with either method. Do you have a favorite stamping product or line that you think every stamper should have/use? My mother-in-law is pretty into Stampin' Up! as is another friend of mine who belongs to a monthly stamp club. I really want to make cards and/or invitations and have had some luck with stamps from A.C. Moore and Michael's and have just started getting into Stampin' Up! products (I have 2 stamp sets and that is all from them, but I really like their ink colors...) Thank you all so much in advance for your replies!
Love, Miriam
