Hope it was great. :)

These are two cards that I made my parents for the holidaze. They're both 2.5 by 3.5 inches. They were so fun and I even put them inside individual card holders (like you can buy for baseball cards). We're gonna frame them so the 'rents can show them off... like I'm still 12. *facepalm* :)

and here's a dog tag I made for my sis! )

I can safely post one of the gifts I had made for a friend without fear that she will see it....
It's a hand embroidered pillowcase.

Sorry that it's crooked.  ANYHOW.... Since they don't make patterns for what I wanted I had to make them.
It's supposed to be:
1) Dr. Who
2) David Bowie
3) Robert Smith.

I got this cool book of Victorian patterns last week and have been working on scaling one up to real size. After that I will have to resize it to a more modern fit - they are all tiny!

So I have a question. There are two kinds of seams marked on the diagrams and I can't figure out what the difference is, and don't see anything in the (minimal) text included.

A page of the pattern )

Some are marked 1/2" seam which I get, but the ones that are 3/4" are maeked 3/4" space seam - does anyone have any idea what the significance is? Google is no help :(

Just posted this to my own LJ but then I figured some of you guys might find this interesting. The make is from the pattern I posted earlier http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/12191555.html

So you know how it's common knowledge that 100 years ago (give or take) people were much shorter, smaller, on average because of bad nutrition? I knew that, I was aware of it. Seen some pretty short bedsteads in various visits to country homes and museums. Till I fussed with this pattern today I had NO idea. I got a book of Victorian women's fashions - little prints of patterns for a wardrobe, all to scale. I graded up one of the patterns by hand yesterday and today, and cut and sewed a jacket piece just in this last few hours. zomg! it's teeeeeeny! Half way through I realised it wasn't going to fit on my dressform no matter how much I tightened that thing down, but luckily (I thought) we have a mannequin hanging around here and she's just thin as a rail - I'd guess a 00.

Well it went on her as long as she didn't have any arms. Seriously, I'm kinda horrified at how small this thing is through the back and shoulders. pics )

Hello- Everyone is so nice in this community I thought you wouldn't mind me asking...

I just got my 1st sewing machine for Christmas but I have no idea what I'm doing!

Can anyone recommend lj communities or websites that will help me learn how to make things?

I'm a plus size girl- so websites/communities with info on how to make plus size clothing would be loverly.

Sorry if this sound vague...
