I didn't see anything about this in the rules but I tried asking my domestic communities to no avail. Mods feel free to delete.

I went to a Civil War Reinactment last year and my boyfriend bought me a knitted houndstooth shawl that I LOOOOVEEEE. But it sheds like CRAZY. Its a very soft thin yarn that was used, but I have little to no experience with yarn besides latch hooking when I was a kid. I have only worn the shawl twice and never washed it. The seller was not the creator so he didn't know anything about fiber content.

Is there a way to keep my shawl from shedding since it looks especially good with black clothing?

I googled and found that my options are to just deal with it, spray it down with hairspray, or wash it with conditioner (although I don't think this is real hair yarn so not sure about that one).

Has anyone had any experience with this? Any magic laundering ideas that frequent knitters use?

It's difficult to see in the photo, but they have thumb holes in the sides.  A Christmas gift for one of my roommates (which I'm only posting now because we just got back from winter break last week and waited until today to have dinner together and exchange gifts).

I can't exactly remember where I found the basic pattern, but I think it might have been this one. At any rate, I modified it significantly - cast on slightly fewer stitches, added mock cable in the hand/palm section, and asymmetric stripes and grosgrain bows in the wrists. I used the leftover yarn (a worsted wool variety of an unknown brand . . . ) from one of my grandmother's previous projects.

Babies!

It just so happens that this fall and winter was the season of little boys. Actually, 2009 was also the year of the baby, as I had to make 3 baby boy and 1 baby girl card for 3 showers and 1 birth. This winter brings the birth of a baby boy to a coworker of mine. Her shower is Friday, so I'd better get stamping! Here are some of my baby cards that I've made since having a digital camera back!

My knockoff tokidoki backpack has finally given up the ghost, so I thought it was time for something new. I've been very into steampunk lately...

My boyfriend calls it my "steam hippy" bag, heh. More pictures and info in my journal.

I used some 1x4 pine and my grandpa's old scroll saw to make this wood animal set for my daughter's upcoming birthday--her first, so they'll be chew toys for now :) For any of you that are afraid of power tools: don't be! They're so FUN! This was my second-ever power tool project and I can't wait to think of more to do.

A little acrylic paint and some scrap fabric, and she's got a nice little set.

I did my first sewing machine project yesterday! I made a purse from goodies found at the thrift store.

I decided to go a little simpler this go around (not so much intricate wire weaving). I also got a new camera...still getting the hang of it. It's a cannon power shot that I got for christmas. I LOVE it!
