Hello all! I hate to ask a question and not even post anything of substance along with it, but I could really use some ideas..I recently moved into a cute little home, with a cute little yard...and a cute little window box. I am no florist. I swear I could kill a fake plant. And I don't really mind bc flowers aren't really my thing..my question is, can anybody help me think of what else I might put in the box to make it as bit less...empty? If I thought I could create metal flowers without them looking like a toddler made them I would consider that, but other than that, no fake flowers, ferns, etc. Just..something that would look nifty in my little box? Thank you in advance..I've never actually had the dilemma of having to decorate the outside of my place, as I've always lived in crummy apartments :)

Which do you think looks better for this piece, raw silver:

or oxidized silver )

I oxidized this piece with black salt, a spice used in Indian cooking. It's very easy to use, and I think a lot less toxic than liver of sulfur (I mean, it's edible)! Here's how I use it:

1. fill an old coffee mug 3/4 with water,
2. microwave until boiling,
3. take outside or in a well ventilated area - this is smelly stuff,
4. dump about a tablespoon of black salt into the hot water and stir,
5. dip your clean silver piece/s into the hot solution,
6. keep dipping and soaking until the desired color is achieved,
7. clean and polish your piece.

Easy! Back salt also works with copper and fine silver...and probably other metals that I have not tried yet.

Have fun!

Hm, I haven't posted a costume in awhile. At the most recent anime con (A-kon) I went to, I decided to go as Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden. So I put this together.
