Hey grrls,

I'm planning on making seed bombs for my friends for christmas so that when spring comes we can do some city beautification.

Does anyone know where I could buy dry red clay in the DC area?  We really have a dearth of craft/art supply stores here.   I've found some cheap online from the west coast, but i'd like to just buy it here.

thanks.

Addition:

Seed bombs are a guerrilla gardening tool that urbanites use to plant flowers/plants illegally in areas that are inaccessible due to fences/walls/etc.  They're typically made by layering peat moss, fertilizer, dirt and seeds in a christmas ornement, but the broken glass (when thrown into an abandoned lot, for example) is not environmentally friendly.  They clay version is safer and better for the planet.  A tutorial is available here http://heavypetal.ca/archives/2007/03/how-to-make-seedballs/

They are messy/dirty, so I'll probably make little drawstring bags out of burlap to put them in for gifts.  Otherwise, fill your pockets, walk around the city and beautify!  (but don't get caught, guerrilla gardening is illegal)

I crocheted this scarf last week and finally had the time to add embellishments to it last night - I added a little leather pocket and feathers. I had thick antique thread that worked perfectly to wrap around the quills of the feathers and loop them through the ends of the scarf.

Here are some close ups and a pic to show the length!

This is a piece I did since a friend at work requested an "S" from my alphabet series for her and her daughter. I am glad for the inspiration!

Really enjoyed painting the seahorse. I used frisket, gouache and watercolor. Took almost 5 days too complete. Final piece is 11" x 15" Enjoy!

So I was wanting to make a few key chains for Christmas presents this year but the place I was going to get my glass marbles from...didn't have them.  So sad.  So I've changed my mind about using the marbles and was wanting to use some glass tiles for the pendants.  Problem is, I have no clue where I could find these at.  I'm wanting to get about 10-15 of them and I really don't want to spend TOO much on them.  I looked on Amazon but the most they had in a set was 4 and there was not multiple of them.  I don't want to use Ebay either.   Also, know of a good place to buy aanraku bails?  I looked in a couple of stores and can't find any (I even looked at Micheal's and they didn't have them).

Sewing kit

I made this for my sister's birthday... she's moved house a grand total of 5 times in as many years, I think, and though she had a sewing kit once, no doubt made for her by our mother, she's lost it over the years. Recently I was at her place and her cat had chewed through her bra strap (I know, wtf?) so I said I'd sew it back, if she could tell me where her sewing kit was. And she said, "Uh........"

So for her birthday (which was a month ago WOW it's taken me ages to post this xD) I made her a sewing kit.

So, I went to a convention this weekend, and added some new appliqued leaves to an old project.

There's more pictures over here, including some close-ups.

For those who like con reports, or want to see pictures of work by my sister and a friend, the two previous posts are also about last weekend.
