Year of the Rabbit coming up, Feb 3!
Jan. 4th, 2011 11:19 amPosting my art piece to celebrate the coming of the Chinese New Year on February 3!
This piece has been featured on 2 popular blogs and in Philadelphia Stories Magazine in the Winter 2011 issue.

Also, have a question for the community. Has anyone hung a show on burlap over plywood? I am hanging a show on Friday and think nails might be the best. Any advice would be appreciated.
Happy New Year!

customising a lamp!
Jan. 4th, 2011 01:46 pmHello!
I've never posted before but have been a member a while. I'm into all sorts of arty stuff primarily fashion - customising clothes, making random accessories and I'm slowly learning a bit about making items using a sewing machine but I can't afford to take a dress making course at the mo :-(
Anyway today's query is... I want to customise a lamp but I am concerned about what I can stick onto a lampshade, what glue is safe etc baring in mind that lamps get hot. I will be using a proper lampshade (I don't intend on trying to make the thing from scratch!) which is obviously somewhat heat resistant, so really I am just looking for advice on whether I need to choose the customisy bits carefully. I have no idea what to do at the mo.. a lot of my accessories are made from ribbon lace beads studs etc etc but I also have lots of silly plastic things in mind like those magnetic letters you get so you can spell stuff on your fridge or little toys like a hello kitty or something. Basically I am really random and have a screw loose so I like things that look a bit trashy but in an artistic way. ha.
So if anyone has any ideas/advice/warnings on customising a lamp I would be ever so grateful to hear your comments!!
Thanks in advance

"She's Crafty" DVD set???

Oh Gnome You Didn't! coin purse
Jan. 4th, 2011 01:59 pm
I just wanted to share one of my favorites. I bought this fabric months and months ago to make a garden apron for a gnome & mushroom swap and I ended up falling in love with it. I didn't order that much of it and used most for the apron, but I was able to pull together this little coin purse with the last of the scraps I had. I love rick rack, so I like this look more than if it would have been all gnome fabric.

Jan. 4th, 2011 02:15 pmFew weeks ago I posted some decoupage/painted light switches I made.
One of them was decorated with painted umbrellas. The whole set of umbrellas went to my niece for her Bday (lightswitch cover, outlet cover, closet handle), her whole room is white-yellow-blue.
And this is her "winter hollidays" present.

Jan. 4th, 2011 03:17 pmI am wondering what to do about getting hold of clays and suchlike, or powders to make into such, for small scale model making. Needs to be mail order, I live in the sticks and cant afford the bus to the next town except when i head up to Uni (and then its a full day I cant get to any shops)... Would really appreciate any advice on what to get...and where from.
UK websites only please I cant afford to order from overseas.

Crochet question...
Jan. 4th, 2011 08:29 pmHey everyone!
I'm new here and I'm a new crocheter. I've always wanted to make a beret and I've researched for the patterns and found the ones I like. However, when I tried to make with the yarn that was provided with my beginner book for crocheters, the beret was really small, it only could fit a head the size of a Barbie doll! It was small partially because out of like 20 rounds, I stopped at the 5th round because it already took shape, and I'm not sure why too.
When I tried to google this, many said that it was the size of the hook that was the problem. Does the size of the hook determine how big your item will be? I was using a small hook, doesn't say any size at all, just something like 1/2 or 1/4. The pattern indicates a Size J with a worsted yarn. Size J? And I'm not sure how you differentiate a worsted yarn from any other yarns. I just used the yarn provided with the beginners book.
So, I was wondering, if the problem lies with the hook size, or the yarn type. My yarn is about the thickness of these but I'm not sure if it's a wool yarn or a worsted yarn (like I said, I have no idea how to differentiate)
Please help me! The pattern is this pattern from Ravelry.
Also, I wanted to ask, usually how much does a skein of yarn cost? I'm trying to buy some online.
YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. YOU CLEARED ALL MY QUESTIONS! (:

I'm new here and wanted to say a quick hello :) I have been sewing and crafting for many years and currently make weekly sewing tutorials on my youTube channel. I really love the posts I've already seen in this community and was wondering if it is ok if I post my sewing videos on here sometimes. If not it's ok...I can just post the finished project pictures. Anyway, someone please let me know. Hope everyone is having a wonderful week :)
