I was miraculously gifted an iPod touch recently. I wanted it to have a cozy place to rest when it's kicking around in my purse, or in case of spills when my kids are around. ;)

I found a lovely large piece of bronze leather at a garage sale last summer for $1(!!), and figured making an iPod case would be a nice small project to start with.

This was my first leather working project (as you can tell from my wonky cutting and stitching), but I love the results and learned a lot.

I loosely followed the (poorly proofread) instructions here, as well as reading up on basic wet molding leather techniques. I added the flap for extra protection, and so that the sleeve didn't have to be super snug. It's a good fit, but easy to get in and out.

Today I was at a local elementary school and I saw these awesome, colorful snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. They looked like they were colored with watercolors or food coloring. They looked like they were made using coffee filters. The only thing is that they were too large to be coffee filters, the paper seemed a bit thicker than a coffee filter too, and there were no scallops or curves like you see on coffee filters. I have found online some ideas as to why a coffee filter might not have the scallops - they were ironed out or starched and then ironed out. But it got me wondering if they were made from a special type of paper. I am wanting to do this craft with some elementary kids at church. We can make them with coffee filters but I loved that these snowflakes were so huge and thicker than a regular coffee filter.

So my question: If these snowflakes weren't made from coffee filters, what kind of paper do you think they were made from? I'm trying to search online for different types of papers and I can't find anything that seems right. I don't have the proper name and my search results aren't producing what I am looking for.

Any other ideas on how to step this craft up a notch would be appreciated.

I signed up for a Pay It Forward project, where after being picked to receive a handmade item from someone, I posted to my blog to find 5 other people to send handmade items to. (p.s. I still have one more spot I'm trying to fill! If you can send out 5 handmade crafts, leave a comment right here) I got on board a few days ago, but I've been so excited about it, I've almost finished all of my packages! I'm sending my first package all the way to Ireland on Monday!
