I knit these fingerless gloves this week.

My family moved to Germany almost a year ago, and I am yet to find a local craft store. The nearest one I know of is a good hour and a half drive away. Because of this, I was forced to use what I have on hand to make costumes for my kids this year. The challenge has been fun. My son's spider costume is done. Well, the sewing part at least. I haven't seen a lot of paintings in this community, but it's the advice of the painters that I need now. I want to paint my son's face to complete the costume. We looked up close-up photos of siders and decided to give him some extra eyeballs. Thing is, I have ZERO talent in painting. I don't want his extra eyes to just be some random orange circles painted on a black face, but I wouldn't know how to detail them to actually look like eyes. Any suggestions?

By the way, this is how excited he is about it... )

I just made these two bags using this super quick and easy to use pattern and thought I'd share with ya'll.

I had some excess fabric so I used it to make little "key hooks" on the sides. This is an extremely versatile pattern that you can adjust as you like by adding or removing darts and pockets, etc.

...crazy, I know!

One of my friends loves sea invertebrates (nearly as much as me) so I wanted to make her a sea urchin inspired pillow. Below is what I crocheted all in a matter of about 2hrs.

The pillow has a 10" diameter. The other side is [Unknown site tag]behind the cut

There's no specific pattern. I just chained 5 and made a medallion with 15 double crochets and then added and subtracted rows as I went around. What's great is that it used less than 3 small skeins of soft afghan yarn to complete both sides.

Hey Craftgrrls! I'm normally a lurker, but I wanted to get this out there.

A couple of groups I watch on Facebook have been forwarding this around, and I thought this would be really neat for any of the knitters here who might be interested in doing something that's equal parts fun, silly, and adorable!

There was an oil spill in New Zealand, and now there's a "Knit-For-A-Penguin" campaign starting to knit little woolly jumpers for all of the oil-soaked penguins to wear until they're well enough to be cleaned and prevent them from nibbling oil off their feathers and getting even more sick.

It sounds really silly, and at first I thought it had to be fake, but it turns out, this is a real thing, and the organization gathering the sweaters has already gotten over a thousand of them, and are looking to take on 2,000 more for the penguins.

Text from the article, as well as some pictures of some of these penguins sporting the sweaters they've received is under the cut!

You Know You Want To Knit A Sweater For A Penguin... )

Even if you don't think you can do one for this fund, the pattern could still be nifty to hold onto, and could be modified for stuffed animals you may have around your house, too! :D

As well, a few sources say that the folks collecting these sweaters require them to be wool, because they need the insulation. (The second link is from January, but is talking about the same group doing this current drive-- This isn't the first time they've done sweaters for penguins, apparently.)

::EDIT::   Nevermind, it looks like they have enough sweaters for now. My bad! ^^;
