fabric paint on felt - machine washable?

hey I'm just starting a huge craft project, and I'm wondering if any of you have used fabric paint on felt and if it does okay in the washing machine. In my project I will actually be using a paintbrush to paint designs onto the felt (just like painting on canvas). I looked in the memories section, but didn't find anything - and I'm very new to this "crafting" genre.
