Knitting on circs :(

So you know how on all those knitting on circulars tutorials it always says make sure that the stitches aren't twisted before you join them? I think I kinda twisted mine because the tube I'm knitting looks like a deformed mobius strip. Question: What would happen if I just kept going with this and didn't fix it? I'm eventually going to be turning this thing into a hat by decreasing up at the top until it becomes a little dome thing.....will this be impossible because of the Mobius-ness of the hat? What's going to happen if I don't tear it out and start over, 'cause I'm not looking forward to doing that.
