Painting on Velvet?

Brass rubbing velvet art

- she used to do brass rubbings when she was young. Does anyone have any experience painting on velvet? I'm wondering if I should use acrylics or fabric paint or spray paint or screenprint ink...(which i think wouldn't work - too thin?).
