Hi! I've been reading for a while, but this is my first post!

So, to the question!
I'm painting my Mom a picture for Christmas. It's going to be of bamboo, and down one side is a saying about making your life like bamboo. Anyway, I need suggestions of what to write the saying down the side with! It's not REAL long, but it's also not real short. I'm doing the whole thing kind of chinese/feng shui style, so I was thinking of like black ink for the writing. The problem is, I've never done any kind of fancy writing on anything. I was considering calligraphy.. but I've never done it before, and I'm not sure it's the look I'm trying to go for. Someone suggested that I get a really fine/small nice paint brush and just dip it in black ink and paint it on there, I think that might work out ok. I'm just afraid of screwing it up! Does anyone know if that WILL work well? And if so, what kind of paint brush and/or ink I should use? Like I said, I've never tried something like this - painting nice writing onto a picture. So I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this and/or has any suggestions for what I might use? ANY way people could think of doing this, barring probably printing it on there with a printer or something, as I kind of want to make the whole thing myself.
