paper makin'

I made this paper from scratch during a workshop at a paper & textile studio.
We threw plant fibers, thin strips of cotten fabric and warm water in a vat and mixed it for hours until we were left with a thick pulpy mess. Then we pushed it through a filter to remove the water.
We flattened it onto wax paper and pressed them with a huge wooden thing until they dried. We were also able to incorporate other objects. For this piece, I layered into the pulp an image from a biology book, bits of other papers and the shavings from a blue colored pencil.
We learned a variety of techniques that result in very different looking kinds of paper, and I am looking foward to posting some other examples if I ever get them scanned..; )
