batting !?

hey everyone.. ive been looking at craftgrrl for awhile and im stuck!!!

i am making a bag for the first time ( i have made them before but this time im kicking it up a notch ) .. and im trying to use batting so the sides and the bottom are firm ( or semi firm ) and im just having trouble with it.. i did like a batting outline and put it in the bag..but making it look right isnt working for me .. does anyone have any tips on batting??? i looked on the memories and there wasnt much on it..
