I'm not sure if this is a crafting question or not but here it goes.

Has anyone ever made caramel covered marshmellows? I've had them from Williams-Sonoma and they're really good, but they're also a bit expensive. I was wondering if anyone's ever made this at home before. I'm looking for a recipe and tips on how to keep the marshmellows from melting when introduced to the warm caramel.

Thanks!

Cd Cases

What are some creative ways to store a CD? I'm giving away mix-cd's for Christmas presents, and I don't want your typical jewel case. My mom threw away our AOL tins before I could get to them. Any ideas?

I have a pair of dark blue straight legged jeans. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. Unfortunately I had to grow sideways and they're too tight now. So I was wondering, if I put a zipper down the front and back of the legs would that make enough of a difference? Or should I open up the sides and sew fabric in there? I don't want them to end up flared though...
And the waist is too small. Should I just use fabric to extend that too?

In addition to the chocolate spoons, this is another super easy project. Nothing to measure, ingredients are easy to find, and pretty cheap too.

Peppermint Bark
Ingredients:
White chocolate
Dark Chocolate
crushed peppermints
peppermint flavor oil, optional. (found it in the candy making section of AC Moore)

Directions:
Melt the dark chocolate. Add a couple drops of peppermint flavor oil. Pour a very thin layer into the bottom of a cookie sheet or baking pan. Let it set.
Melt white chocolate. Stir in the peppermints but less than you'd think you need. Pour into the baking pan over the dark chocolate. Make sure the dark chocolate is semi-firm or else it'll swirm together. You want this layer 2 or 3 times thicker than the dark chocolate.
Sprinkle more of the peppermints on top so it looks pretty.
After it's all cool, cut or break it into chunks. Then you can put it into cute tins or little cellophane bags to give away.

Question about marble magnets. Yeah, another one.

But I did check the FAQ.

The glue I bought is e6000 and I was just wondering if you REALLY need to let it set for 10 minutes before pressing together it together?

Simple as that.
Thanks in advance and such.

If this isn't crafty totally delete it.
This is kind of embarresing to post, but I need help.
What's appropriate to say in a christmas card to my therapist? Should I just say the generic merry christmas happy holidays blah blah?
I do like him, have learned a lot, and think he's a smart good guy. But should I say that or is that like..not appropriate for a patient-doctor relationship. Is this not the time? Or is this just kind of my call?
And what is a good generic thing to say to a therapist? I'm kind of lost what is right.
Sorry if this is totally the wrong place to ask.

Thanks to everyone for replying to my "glue & paper question" post last night. I was too excited about the project and finished it up and already wrapped it (lol). I just used plain white Elmer's glue and a cheap craft brush to brush the glue on evenly to the backs of the photo paper and stuck them on the black paper. No wrinkles, no curving upwards, and no air bubbles; yay! And in that rush of excitement, I forgot to take pictures of the final product. I did take before photos though, so if you're curious, you can see them behind the lj-cut. It should load quickly; it's only about 80kb or so. Also behind the lj-cut is information about the book. :) Pictures of the final project will be posted after Christmas since this is my bf's Christmas Eve gift. <3

i'm making my dad a giant floor pillow, and i was planning on stuffing it with poly-fill. but then someone mentioned that poly-fill tends to bunch up, and if he'll be sitting on it i'm afraid it will definately bunch. are there any alternate materials i could use as stuffing? or something in conjunction with the poly that will keep it from bunching as much?

Okay, I went to my local Wal-mart and I can't find the circle magnets. What do they look like and where, again,(sorry)in the store did you find them? Or should I go to Michael's? I am sorry I know I should check the FAQ or my old emails, but I am at work right now. I can't check my inbox at work and I have a hella lot of trouble navigating the FAQ. Someone take pity on my irritating ass.

I don't own the S&B book (wahhhhhhhh!) and this Christmas looks to be a lean one. My library refuses to GET the book because of the title (how lovely). I was wondering if somebody would give me some of the selective patterns I wish to use in exchange for something. Money isn't really an option, but I've got crafting supplies and lots of yarn.
Instead of commenting, please email me: anarchistinde@yahoo.com

Hey everyone! I've been watching this community for a while, but this is my first post here. Anyway, I need suggestions on what to make my older sis for Christmas. I checked the memories, but nothing there really appealed to me. Here's some stuff about her, if it helps: She's 20, goes to Brown University, has a minor obsession with newsboy hats, loves science fiction, chocolate, and the movie Chicago. I know I'm going to get her the Chicago soundtrack, but I want to make her something too. An suggestions?

Question:

[identity profile] insert-username.livejournal.com
I see all these really hot Marc Jacobs shoes in magazines, and since I can't afford my own pair(s), I was thinking maybe I could paint some typical heels from a thrift store.

The question is, what kind of paint do I use?
[identity profile] twotrees.livejournal.com
Thanks so much to everyone that responded to my last post. I have another question. How many magnets come in a container at Michaels. I can get 50 online at a store for 9.50 before shipping and supposedly they are super strong.

I am just asking.

soap!

Dec. 7th, 2003 07:27 pm
[identity profile] trinity-22.livejournal.com
I made soap for the first time ever tonight. Two are plain ovals (one is red and cinnamon smelling, the other is red and peppermint smelling) then the third i made is an oval as well but a bit more complicated. I put a layer of glycerine, then sprayed it with alcohol to diminish air bubbles, let it cool, then added snowflake erasers and sparkles, then i added a green base. I guess it shouldve been blue but i wanted to keep with the christmas theme.

not too shabby for my first time. i asked for a digital camera for christmas so then maybe i can actually post pictures of stuff i've done.

no questions in this post, just an informational one ;) hope the holiday gift making is going well

hey crafty people. this might be totally annoying, but i hope its not. and if it is, delete it ;D so i have a question. i posted a few days ago about this altoid tin shrine thing i'm making for my.. guy. i will def. post pictures of the finished product, but i need some suggestions. i made a collage of album covers of his favorite metal bands, and put it on the top of the tin.. i dont know if i've been staring at it for too long or what, but it's looking pretty bad to me. kind of blah. so, i'm at a total loss for what to put on the top besides that. i was thinking of maybe cutting out his name in black construction paper and strategically placing the letters on the top, or maybe.. something else! which is why i need your help.

yeah, i'm annoying... but thanks SO MUCH if you have any ideas.

Soap!!

So I'm making little gift basket things of soap and whatnot for my friends for xmas this year, and I've actually had A LOT of fun making all this soap!! I thought I'd show everyone what I've done so far..

title or description

Eh, not very impressive but my favorite by far are the turtles.. the shells are brown and scented with cinnamon and clove, the green of their bodies is vanilla :D

so today i made soap with my residents. 21 showed up out of 45 so i was pretty happy (considering finals begin tomorrow) with the turnout. it wasn't as hard as i had thought - i was totally flipping out.

---i dropped the crockpot down the stairs 1/2 an hour before the program began and started freaking out. it's against the rules to have them in the hall, so i couldn't find any residents with one. luckily, my area coordinator had one.---

so i bought a 25 lb. block of glycerin ($30), 4 scents ($12), 4 colors ($8), plastic and styraphome cups, shaped erasers (to put in the center like a prize!), popsicle sticks, and moulds (i used ends of PVC pipes - they're just round and cost less than 17 cents each. you can also buy moulds - i had 8 store bought ones. they're about $6 for 4)

i then cut the block of glycerin into chunks and microwaved it until liquid. i then put it into the crockpot to stay liquid. residents then scooped out the glycerin. if they were putting a shape in, they put in just clear (just a little bit) after that hardened they put in the shape and then filled the rest of it up with a color/scented mixture they created in the plastic cup and they mixed with the popsicle stick. they could also have just the color/scent mix filled all the way up to the top.

they then put them in the freezer and had them harden and out they popped once done.

we wrapped them in celaphane and then put them in winter-y goodie bags purchased at the dollar store and made them as holiday gifts for people.

everyone was VERY happy with the results. it was a bit on the expensive side, but a lot of people enjoyed it.

ok, as i won't be getting a sewing machine until after Christmas now, i had to think of gift ideas that don't involve the use of a sewing machine. and it was actually easier than i thought it'd be! cookie mixes for my 2 cousins and hot chocolate mixes for my aunties and uncles and my grandparents. now, it's easy to make cookie mix in a jar look pretty...with smarties / M+M's/etc. but how am i supposed to make hot chocolate mix look nice? coz all the stuff has to be mixed up inside the jar. am i making sense? heh! so yeah...anyone got any suggestions on how to make the actual hot chocolate mix look nice? or is it virtually impossible and i'll have to make the actual jar look nice instead?...

Coffee Mugs

this doesn't exactly apply to the community, but i thought you girls might know... are there any cool pottery sites online? I'm looking for a unique handpainted mug as a gift for christmas.
[identity profile] jesamine.livejournal.com
firstly, i'm in the UK, so i only want people in the uk to respond really.
as the subject says, i want large glass jars. preferably free, but i'd be willing to pay for postage, as long as it's not too much. so yeah, either comment or email me: jez@jesamine.co.uk. fanks!

I've enjoyed this community for a while, but this is my first post. I've noticed lots of questions about Christmas gifts. Here's my easy fall-back. These pretty cranes are easy to make, look fantastic, and make good all-around gifts.

At work we are having a decorating contest. I need very cheap ideas that we can do to make the theme "winter wonderland" look really good. They need to be hard to break if possible, I work with the developmentally disabled. One good behavior and anything small and fragile would be trashed. Paper crafts? Anything durable? Anyone got any ideas? Help!
