ideas for a boy's gift?

craftgrrlI'm wanting to make a couple of small gifts for my partner's kids. The girl is easy -- I'm going to make a bar of soap and maybe decorate a penguin's tin for her to keep ponytail holders in.
But I'm getting stuck for what to make for the boy. He's 12, an average kid -- not too into sports, likes playing video games and watching tv. I don't think he'd appreciate the soap as much, nor can I think of anything he'd want to keep in a little tin. We talked about giving him a mix cd, but that's dissatisfying -- I feel like I'm not being as crafty for him as I am for her.
Anyone have a suggestion?
