Sewing machine troubles

I was wondering if anyone know what's wrong with my sewing machine. The threaded needle won't catch and loop the bobbin' thread (if you know what I mean) and the thread in the needle keeps on getting frayed. I tried reloading the bobbin, played with the tention and the stitch lenth but nothing is working. I am in desperate shape and need to get these dresses done soon. Ugh. Thanks in advance.
