bits of yarn

Hi!! I just recently joined this community and have been listening to all the great talk around here.
I am mostly a knitter but I dabble in all sorts of things; trying to break into sewing soon.
Anyway my real purpose for posting is I recently received a great deal of rug hooking yarn as a Christmas present. Now I do many things, but I do not hook rugs.
Is there anything else you can do with this stuff?
If anyone out there hooks rugs can you use it on canvas? Maybe I could make a furry purse or something?
Any ideas would be great
