Craft Idea for old style necklaces.
Jan. 4th, 2004 07:15 pmA couple of years ago I got this idea from one of my extremely innovative cousina: using old plastic beads from older lady necklaces to make Christmas garlands.
I made one and then the next year found more beads and restrung it. It just needed some other colors. I used every cool necklace I could get my hands on. I even used beads from tacky little kid's necklaces and some beads from an old parrot roost that was never used. There are some fimo beads in there that I made back in '92 and even one I found at a trift store that has the cat in the hat on it. I also made a few out of that paper mache stuff you get at craftstores and pushed some seed beads into some of them.
One thing that I didn't do which my cousin did as she had a store and had accumulated mass quantities of these necklaces(there used to be a massive fall sale at a local nursing home where they had tons of fabulous necklaces with really cool glass and plastic beads--I have some glass ones from these necklaces that I use for making new necklaces for people), was to add the tiny gold beads that came on some of these necklaces, in between the mixed up beads. I didn't have enough of those. However, I now have a multi-colored, fun garland and I might just keep it up past Christmas and use it for everyday. I will get a picture.
