my first try at felting something other than a flat blob.



my first couple of experiments with felting were fun, so i thought i would see if i could mold it into a hat-like shape this time. i don't have any kind of molds or anything, so i used the nearest thing i had to a hat shape which was a big mixing bowl. then i stretched it over the bottom of a big tub of butter and let it dry. there were random holes and chunks of felt hanging off, so i stitched those together with some thread and beads.

another experiment with felting. i had also been wanting to try koolaid as a dye, so i gave that a try with this batch. basically just split it in half and unevenly dyed it for a splotchy effect. i used cherry and lemonade.



i didn't have much wool for this one, i only bought a small amount because i was just experimenting, but i think i will definitely try again with a bigger batch sometime. some parts were so thin they didn't felt well. i wish i would have taken fotos while i was doing this stuff, but i didn't even think of it. next time.
