Patchwork...

Ok, so I've got it in my head that I want to make a Patchwork skirt. This is all fine and dandy, and I'm cutting out my squares. Suddenly I realize, I don't know how to make it so that it looks right (much fuller on the bottom than the top).

I guess I could go ahead and sew all of my squares together, and then cut out a skirt pattern from the sheet made of squares, but I keep thinking that there's a better way to do it.

Anybody have any ideas?
