Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were snow days. So I got down with my crafty self.

Project One: Paper Quilt. The frame used to be gold. I painted it black (obviously), but allowed some of the gold to show through. Sanding it first helped the paint to stick. I then measured the cardboard backing of the print that used to be in the frame. I used graph paper to lay out two quilt patterns to fit on the cardboard. It was tedious and involved some trial and error as well as some work with a calculator.

Then I colored all of my "pieces" on the pattern with colored pencils just to get a general idea of what it would look like. I cut the pattern apart piece by piece and used those pieces as templates to cut the "quilt" from handmade paper. (Not made by me, mind you -- I got one of those big 2 pound bags of handmade paper for Christmas.) With permanent double-sided tape I stuck the quilt pieces right to the cardboard. I had to wiggle some pieces around before they would fit right, but it all turned out in the end. Cleaned the glass with Windex, framed it, and there you have it!

Project Two: Collage Art. Old picture frame. More of the handmade paper, plus a vintage-themed scrapbook paper set. The keys are from an old necklace and the heart is from an old pair of earrings. I threw the glass away because I didn't want to lose the great texture of this piece. This was a nice quick one. Double stick tape for the paper. Bond 527 (maybe not the exact number, but it doesn't matter) for the metal. Strangely, the glue makes the metal really cold for a few minutes!
