Leather Dyeing
Feb. 19th, 2004 08:31 pmI took a peek at the memories, though I didn't find anything.
I want to make a leather fairy outfit in which I can spin fire. I'm thinking of taking thrifted leather clothes and modifying them to get the look I want. On top of the base pieces I wanted to add leather appliques of flames.
So what I am asking here is, other than leather dye is there any way to color leather? I'm thinking of more of a staining effect, reds, oranges and yellows over the base colors (so they are not too bright/tacky). The RIT site says nothing; I think that any type of paint would be no good (as I would hate to set it on fire), maybe ink as a stain?
I ask because I'm trying to work with what I have before heading out to spend a lot of money, but if the leather dye is best I guess I'll head out to Tandy. Suggestions?
