Blanketeers: Get Your Freak On
Feb. 21st, 2004 06:42 amI'm not sure if anyone has posted anything about this, but today is Make a Blanket Day, according to Project Linus, which is a non-profit organization that provides "love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of NEW, HOMEMADE, WASHABLE blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer blanketeers."
Today different chapters across the U.S. (I'm not sure if there are any in Canada or elsewhere) are holding sessions for people to come and make blankets for kids in need. For example, in Maine they're going to be set up in Dover-Foxcroft and in addition to providing materials, they're giving workshops about how to quilt. All they ask is that you bring your own sewing machine. So if you have a few friends and nothing to do today, check out the Project Linus website and find out if there's a chapter in a city near you.
