ribbed knit curling

craftgrrlhey, chicas. i saw info in the faq about the problem with stockinette always curling up on itself, but i'm having a slightly different problem.
i'm knitting a long ribbed scarf (k5,p2). it wants to curl up in a tube. is there any way to get it to lay flat? i'm putting tassels/fringe on the ends, so can i maybe do the ends in a different stitch to help?
