Taking in a swim suit?

I have this swim suit that I got last summer, and it's an XL... But I'm really not an XL anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if I was a medium now. But anyway, I was curious how to take it in? The material itself isn't that stretchy at all, and I was wondering if I would need a stretchy thread? I dunno.. ANYTHING regarding this would help me a bunch.
