craftgrrl | Making First Floor Windows More Covered Up

I just moved into an apartment that sits on the first floor and would like to put up a little more coverage than is possible with the window blinds (I've had problems in the past with Peeping Toms). Not Martha has a project for frosting your windows, which would probably be at my level of technical expertise. But I've also been thinking about just purchasing some screens to keep around the apartment and put in front of the windows (especially at night) or ideally, install curtain rods and drapes. The curtain project would require me to finally getting around to buying some power tools and learning how to use them. So I'm a little concerned about ending up with a project where I spend more time just trying to figure out the basics rather than getting it finished.

Any thoughts or suggestions (especially about what type of power tools to buy)? Any other first floor apartment dwellers out there who've found creative ways to get a little more privacy?
