Apr. 25th, 2004 01:42 pmi went ahead with making a purse out of felt.

pink outside, yellow inside, green strap, green dinosaur, green pockets inside. held closed with velcro.

inside pocket. i had to make the pencil slots diagonal because the purse was too short to have them going straight up and down. i think it turned out cooler anyways. then there is a key-loop on the far left.
so here is my advice:
-if you plan on making a purse ANY LARGER than this one, get felt by the yard. i used those little 10 cent paper-sized sheets and this is the biggest the purse could get.
-DO NOT try to iron felt without wax paper between the iron and the felt. maybe i'm just dumb enough to do that..but still. i ruined my iron and left an iron print on the back of the purse the first time.
-i didn't end up using interfacing, the felt felt (hah) stiff enough with just the outside layer and the lining layer. so i didn't try to go at it again with the iron.
-go over EVERY seam twice. the felt rips apart from the seams easily.
-for extra security in the corners (this is just what i do) while the purse is still inside out, i put a bead of hot glue in each corner. that way, i think, there is less of a chance of holes starting from the corners.
..that's about it, if anyone has any other questions, please feel free to comment.
critique is also appreciated.
