Baby showers sort of freak me out.
My good friend in an instance of questionable wisdom has allowed me to throw her one of these events for her little Tess who is about to bust out into the big beautiful world. More importantly she has given me carte blanche to do it just like Frank Sinatra -
My way.
So like a depraved Miss Manners I threw out all the sacred tenets of baby shower etiquette.
I invited men. I purchased liquor. I bought tiny plastic monkeys.
I boldly sent out tiki themed invitations with a sated gladness in my heart knowing that people will be celebrating the precious arrival of a tiny new life while holding drinks with flaming garnishes.

For those attending who still maintain that level of discomfort no matter how compelling hors oeuvres served in half coconuts may be, I made light up punch bowls for them to stare into.

Get lit!

For those taking notes, that is a two dollar painters bucket from the home depot with the rim cut off. I drilled holes in the bottom for a ceiling mount socket and a hole for the electrical cord. Then I used spray-ment to attach the fabric to the bucket. I followed the directions on the lamp cord kit for wiring and then screwed a dual socket thing into the single socket. Two 15-watt bulbs and a plastic punch bowl from "Party City" later, I have mes-mo-rizing beverage receptacles!
