this is kind of crafty. and i want to contribute something to the community, so here goes...

i finally hung up a print that my boyfriend made a few weeks ago. he took a photo of us into photoshop, selected our features, shadows, etc. took it to kinkos and printed it out on orange paper for $12.

i added a black frame around it and hung it up tonight.
the images are behind the cut, plus how he/we created it...

the funny thing about this piece is i HATE the photo of us, the original, but this print looks pretty flattering. i couldn't believe he used this one when i saw it, but man he did a great job. also, it was very sweet <3

i've done some similar things like this in photoshop, but i asked him for his quick instruction on how he went about creating it and this is what he said:
"create a new layer over top the image. use the pen tool or any selection tool and select shapes of the shadows/features, then fill the selection black or whatever color or shade." he used the polygon selection mode.

it's a nice print, but i didn't want to waste time framing it so i just tacked it to the wall with heavy duty wall tacks. then i took a black frame i had lying around and hung it sideways.. i mean, you can see what i did, it's not hard to figure out :)

it's nice that we have the image saved to disk, so if we ever wanted to use the image for something else, we'd just go print out another one.

all in all the entire piece cost us $12 for the printing. time spent on project was like an hour to create, a trip to kinkos to print, and a couple of minutes to hang. since this creation, we've made a few more pieces, and i hope to have them printed soon.
