lining?

okay, so I know this is going to seem kind of basic, but can someone give me a quick overview of how to put in linings? Specifically, I'm going tp put one in a purse (I haven't made the puse yet). I've been sewing for forever, but it's been a while since I made something with a lining and I don't really remember how to do it.
I guess I can't figure out how to make it so that the seems aren't sticking out and being all gross... and I'm nto sure when to do the lining.
Anyway, you guys are all so crafty and helpful... I've learned so many things here!
