rice bag thing?

i know i've seen these talked about everywhere, but i can't find any information in the memories. i'm looking for instructinos for those fabric pillows filled with rice or whatever else. i know how very descriptive is, but i'm sure you ladies know what i'm talking about.

i've read that the rice smells sometimes, and that there is a better filler, but i can't recall what it is. also, any recommendations for a scent to add?
