x-posted on my journal
Jul. 28th, 2004 10:47 pmWowwwww. I haven't posted her in awhile. Guess I haven't had an excuse to. But lately I've gotten an obsession with framing signed concert memorabilia. First scrapbooking, now this. I sure know how to pick expensive hobbies! Oh well. I think I have actually done a pretty good job economically speaking, considering how high frames can run up to. I'm posting pictures and a brief description, as well as the items I used and the approximate cost, in case anyone is interested....
in order that they were created.
- Count the Stars -

I made it over winter break, shortly after they broke up. Signed CD booklet, as well as an original CD. 2 stickers to balance everything out, that I received free at a show. I also used two toned construction paper (I think it's like $2 for a pack at Target) and stencils I made with cardboard to hand-cut the 23894729347 stars (yes, I assure you that it was a bitch to do). I used one of those album frames ($9.99 at Target) to put it all together. I'm not thrilled by it, but it could have been worse.
- Something Corporate -

This re-ignited my desire of framing. I went to Michael's and they had a sale for these 11x14 frames for only $3, so I picked a couple up. I instantly decided I could use it to frame my set list I obtained in Lake Tahoe, so I also picked up a couple of snowflake scrapbook pages for 29 cents each. Lined everything up (I eyeballed it, so I doubt it's as accurate as it could be) and came up with this. It's simple, but I'm rather pleased. And hey, the whole effort was less than $4.
- Finch -

I half-assed made this after I did the SC setlist. Used an 8x11 frame I already had (it came in a pack, but was probably $2 for itself) and lined it with cardstock I already had (which was 35 cents) and framed my booklet. I also added the little promo card that I got for free on one of my DTR.com shopping adventures. I eyeballed this one as well so I am quite aware that it's not perfectly aligned, but I'm a lazy ass. kthanks.
- DTR Pizza Box (signed by The Starting Line, Andrew, Brian, and Wiliam from Something Corporate, and Timmy from Allister at various shows) -

I've been wanting to do something with the 'pizza box' forever but I never knew what. I randomly found this 9x9 inch frame at Ikea's for $6.99 (I think) and decided it had major potential. Plus it had depth like a shadow frame, which is necessary since it's a three-dimensional box. It looked really plain by itself so I decided to use some vellum pizza stickers to jazz it up (I got them on sale for like a dollar at some Paper Factory store). I was originally going to use the stickers for a show I went to at Jerry's Pizza, but I think it looks pretty decent...
- Hidden in Plain View -

I didn't get this signed at a show, but whateva it's still hot (well, as hot as hipv can get. rofl). My mom bought it for me for my birthday. I found the frame at Ikea for $5. Even though I knew that it was bigger than my poster, I bought it anyway since I'm cheap and 18x24 (actual size of the poster) frames can get really expensive. It was a plain wood frame so I painted it with antique white paint (44 cents a bottle at Wal-mart....brush cost like 28 cents). I lined it with black cardstock I already had. And yeah. That's all there is to tell.
- Fall Out Boy -

Made this the day after I got this signed. haha. Found this frame at Wal-Mart for $5 (it was one of those sports team collage ones where a 5x7 team picture goes on one side and then there's an oval to put the individual's photo on the other side, but I took that template out). Used midnight blue paint (44 cents at Wal Mart). Left the CD in there (why not).
Made these last three this evening......
- Something Corporate -

Used a promo poster that I got free at a show, as well as free sticker. Lined it with cardstock (40 cents). Used the same frame as the CTS one. It was on sale at Target for $8.99. Not much to this one...but I think it looks okay.
- That 70's show -

Got a script at a taping last year and most of the regular cast signed it (damn you Topher Grace and Laura Prepon *shakes fist*). Found some cardstock paper that had a 70's vibe. They were on clearance for 25 cents each. The frame came from Ikea for $3. Painted it Cardinal Red (44 cents at Wal Mart). Finally, I decorated it with stickers (a pack was a dollar at Wal-Mart). The end.
- The Format -

The same kind of frame I used for the Something Corporate set list (hey....$3 ain't bad). Lined it with two pages of cardstock (35 cents each). Got a few photos printed from the show I went to in February (at Wal-Mart it was 24 cents a picture). Used some cardstock that kind of matched the booklet (40 cents each). Cut the photos into circles with some scrapbooking gear. Also made some circles of the same size from the cardstock to act as matting. Used double sided tape to put them together. SInce the booklet didn't say what band it was, and I don't have a Format sticker (boo), I used some alphabet stickers I had (it was probably a couple dollars). Came up with this.
I hope you ladies approve.
