[identity profile] butterfield8.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Hey everyone! I joined this community a few days ago when I decided that I wanted to get into crafts. I eventually will open an e-store and sell stuff, but I have to actually MAKE that stuff before I can do it! Right now all I have is soaps.

Anyway, yesterday I purchased my first sewing machine. Sears, Kenmore $159, so far, I love it. And I already made a bag! Which will be my first ever.

This is the outside of the bag. It was made with two JCrew tank tops. Body measures 7.5 x 6 inches.

This is the seam near the handle. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to not make this happen? Every time I sewed in a layer, I had a problem with this.

This is the lining. I think it was something like $1.97/yd at JoAnn Fabric, which is really cool.

I turned it inside out to show you what my inside lining seams look like. Any feedback on how to improve this, too?

I'm aiming for the bags look as professional as possible, but I do like a bit of a homemade feel. I'd say this is a really great bag considering I used no pattern and I just learned how to use the machine, let alone any machine, last night. Anyway, pretend I had two of these that looked EXACTLY the same (yucky seams and all), would ANYONE buy it? I'm not saying I will sell this in my store, but I just want an idea of how picky people are with what they'll buy. I'd sell it for $8-10, something like this.

Any feedback or comments are welcome! Thanks so much!
