I made stuff!
Aug. 11th, 2004 05:24 pm(The subject line is oh-so-inspired. not.)
Before I get into the crafty pictures, I'd like to state that I have a kinda big (1/4 pound), untouched roll of 26 gauge silver wire that I'm never gonna use for anything. If anyone wants it, I'd be willing to send it off for just the cost of shipping. Any takers?
Anyway! Moving on!
First, my friend and I went to Otakon last weekend (omg yey!) and we decided at the last minute to cosplay as Generic Schoolgirls #37 and #38, or some shit. Well, schoolgirls need berets, so we found a SUPER EASY pattern online and sewed up a pair.
I'm not one to let a good thing go to waste after one weekend, so I pulled some pins off my backpack and am now...SUPER POSER!

The buttons are also super poser. The one is (sideways, which I just realized) of the British flag and the other one says "Rock on".
Now, unrelated to the beret, I made myself a circle skirt. I'm not sure what to call it--it's either, like, the circus skirt from hell, or something.

The red and white fabric are both slightly stretchy, very shiny fabric I got in Manhattan, and the pink is from an old silk bandana I thrifted. :D
And now...what I'm MOST proud of, is this.

This is a merman doll (if you couldn't tell, heh) that I made, following this pattern (don't go to that site after looking at mine; it makes mine look bad! ;_;). It only took me three days, and a lot of that time was ripping stuff out and starting over, because damn, this was a hard project.
I haven't decided what to name him yet; any ideas? Here he is from the back, you can sort of see the seaweed in his hair (his hair is brown yarn, the seaweed is dark green yarn :D):

And here's a view of just his upper body:

I wish I had gotten a better picture of a)his tail, because the fabric is so much more vibrant in real life, and his tailfin is kind of shimmery and sparkly, and b) the fins coming out of his head. You can sort of see them in the last picture, anyway. :D
My next project is to get a wooden skewer (my mom keeps them around for shish kabobs and stuff) and paint it with silver nailpolish to give him a little spear, and to find some leather scraps to make him a shield.
That's all!
