To make a long story short, one of my favourite red (stretchy) shirts got thrown in the dryer and it became a crop top. Since i had some extra black fabric lying around, i decided to add a layer of ruffles on the bottom of the shirt so i would actually be able to wear the shirt again.

It started off as a fitted red shirt with capped sleeves.

I used some black cotton/polyester blend material to make one layer of 2" ruffles on the bottom, but as you can clearly see in this picture, the shirt plus only one layer of ruffles was still too short for my liking.

So i added a second layer of ruffles. The second layer is 5" in length, but i sewed the top of it to the top of the first layer of ruffles (does that make sense?) so that only 3" of it is actually visible at the bottom.

Okay, here's me wearing the shirt. Unfortunately, the side-view picture that i took didn't turn out that great. You can't tell from this picture, but there's a gap on both sides of the shirt where the ruffles are. There's a gap because i didn't want to do ruffles all the way around since the black material isn't stretchy, and the red shirt is really stretchy. If i had put the ruffles all the way around, i probably wouldn't be able to get into my shirt-- and that's never a good thing.

To avoid having gaps on the sides of my shirt, i decided to cut out 2" wide strips from the black fabric to make bows that could tie the ruffles together; that way, none of my midriff would be hanging out.

here's a close-up of the bow. There's one on either side of the shirt. :)

The finished product!
Yes... i know... you all love my red polar bear sleeping pants. :P

oh, and by the way, the layers of the ruffles are unhemmed/raw.
