A story and a question...

I took a little weekend vacation with my boyfriend and we had some candles burning in the hotel room (placed on paper, so if the wax dripped it wouldn't ruin any surfaces). Well, lo and behold, one candle managed to drip so much wax from the bench it was resting on that it settled deep into the carpet below.

And thanks to the repeated "how do I get wax off of walls?" question that's been posted here, I knew exactly how to get the wax out with only the hotel room's resources! A half a pad of hotel stationary later combined with the room's iron, all of that silly wax was removed, and we were saved from feeling bad about ruining the floor.

Anyway...

I've been wanting to start scrapbooking like no other, but it seems when I tackle large tasks (oh, say, my and my boyfriend's near 4 year relationship or my schooling pre-K through high school graduation) I give up about 25% of the way through. With this vacation I was sure to save receipts and ticket stubs and mini golf score cards along with some brochures, maps, etc. and I took a bundle of pictures on my digital camera (you can see a few in my latest entry in my journal, if you want).

Now that I've got my items I feel lost as to where to even start. I feel like my scrapbooks (though they're unfinished) stink. They don't look good to me. Does anyone have any good resources (preferably free, online) to help out? Or good tips on making a book look great?

Thank you and thank you!
