hi!

so I'm working on my first hat. I've knitting lots of scarfs and other random rectangular objects before, but have not had much luck with hats. I'm trying to make the Kitty Hat.

I seem to have problems purling, which is something I've never really done before. My stitches keep on ending up realllly tight. Also, when I knit in the round, it seems like the needles are too short for the hat, and the band is getting stretched out, or the wire is bucking out between stitches. But stitching it on DPNs seems like it is really cramped. How do I start out? Any suggestions?

Also, I've never used DPNs before, but have given in, and was wondering if someone could give me a (very brief) run down on how they work, or a link to someplace that I could learn?

Also, any kitty hat tips? I've tried to get started three or four times, and keep on not being able to continue... and I've promised hats for people, too!
