Perusing the patterns at the enourmous Joann's pattern sale a few weeks ago, a few girls from my dorm and I came across Simplicity's "Moulin Rouge" costume patterns and we decided for Halloween (at Florida State University, should be fun!) this year we would all dress up as can-can girls (the same costume is also referred to as "saloon girl," if maybe that gives you a better idea of what we're going for.) My ideas for the costumes so far involve corsets or bustierre's, feather boas, a feather headpiece or a top hat, gloves, fishnets and garters, and maybe gaudy jewelry. The one thing that I'm having a hard time with is the can-can skirt. The skirts I've seen are either full skirts with tons of tulle, or tafetta looking things that are short in the front (gathered by two ribbons) and long in the back. Ideally, I'd like to make the skirt (for just myself or for the other ladies doin the can-can thing) so if any of y'all have any ideas for an easy/cheap way to pull off this look, that'd be great!
