Apologies in advance for no pictures -- I'm digital-camera deprived.

So, I play around with a lot of glass painting. I have this big vase, and I have a project book that suggested something to do with the vase. It was supposed to involve painting the vase a solid jade-ish sort of color, and then stenciling a Chinese calligraphy character on it.

But I had one of those "Happy accident" moments and ended up mixing the paint for the jade green a little too dark. It's way too dark for me to stencil a character on it.

But -- it's a REALLY lovely shade of dark green; think like deep, pine-tree green. So at first I thought I'd keep it right like that. It'd be perfect for a Christmas display -- they sell bundles of pine boughs and holly at a florist near me, and this would be absolutely perfect for that.

But I'd like to give the vase a little bit more detail now; except I can't think how. I'm looking for something really subtle, so the vase doesn't detract from whatever's in it. Red stripes just seems like it would be too much.

A goldleaf rim, maybe? Around the top edge and one or two thin stripes around the bottom? Or silver? Ideas?
